How To Make A Bamboo Fountain From Scratch

by admin

You should think about using a bamboo fountain to liven up your garden.  These unique types of fountains were first developed in Japan where they were used to chase deer away from the fields of rice paddies.  Therefore, it isn’t strange to learn that they have been called “deer chasers”.

The bamboo fountain found another use with the monks who used them to track their meditation times.  Today, more people are intrigued by the bamboo fountain because it is made of eco-friendly material.  Still, the bamboo fountain possesses a simple design and charm that attracts people.  The bamboo fountain is a flexible model so they can be used both indoors and outdoors.

If you want to build your own bamboo fountain, all you need are few simple components.  These pieces include bamboo, pipe or tubing, a base, a water pump, rod, screws, and a container.  For outdoor bamboo fountains, you should use higher quality bamboo that can withstand various weather conditions.  Apart from practical considerations, if you intend the bamboo fountain for inside use, you might consider polishing the material to make it more appealing and longer lasting.  Other tools necessary to build your own bamboo fountain include a screwdriver, wood saw, and a drill machine.

Once you’re ready to build, you should begin by cutting the bamboo sticks to the right length.  There will be three bamboo sticks in the construction.  One stick will be used to hold the nozzle while the others will hold the moving part of the bamboo fountain.  The part that moves is responsible for collecting water and emptying it once the volume of the collected water rises.  Then, you will have to drill a hole through the center of the two other bamboo sticks and the moving part.  These holes will accommodate the rod that allows the fountain to pivot.

For the second [phase] of construction, you will take a pipe and connect it from the pump up through the bamboo.  The very top of this pipe is tipped with a bamboo nozzle.  The materials for your bamboo fountain, once put together, will be added to a base.  Your bamboo fountain is properly built when water coming out of the nozzle falls inside the moving part of the fountain.

If you’re kind of person who would rather someone else did it, then you may prefer purchasing a bamboo fountain kit from your building supply store.

It is good to know how to do maintenance on your bamboo, should you build one.  Any maintenance will concentrate in two places.  The first area is water pump care.  The pump must be kept underwater when in operation.  Don’t forget to clean the pump regularly.  The second aspect of bamboo fountain care is scheduled water replacement.  With fountains that run all the time, this cycle will be less frequent, but water should be to avoid foul smell due to stagnation.
